Take part in Sculpture in the Gaol 2018
100th anniversary of Closure of German Internment Camp
We are calling for expressions of interest for the tenth annual Sculpture in the Gaol Exhibition at Trial Bay. “Once again, the old Gaol will host this fabulous event, this year with over $3000 in prizes,” a Chamber of Commerce spokesperson said. The South West Rocks Chamber is partnering with Kempsey Shire Council and National Parks & Wildlife Service to present the event which runs from 5th August to 1st September 2018.
“This year there are 2 major prize categories: large metal and/or timber sculptures and small metal, timber and/or mixed media sculptures. There will be prizes for runners up and a random sculpture draw winner. There is no entry fee to exhibit and sculptures may be priced for sale,” the spokesperson said.
All school students in the Macleay area are encouraged to enter the Schools Sculpture in the Gaol Exhibition and/or the Schools Photographic/Art Exhibition. Entries for the schools Photographic/Art Exhibition preferably must relate to the 100th anniversary of closure of the German Internment Camp at Trial Bay Gaol.
This year’s sculpture winners will again be chosen by popular vote by the viewers and announced at the closing of the sculpture exhibition at the Seabreeze Beach Hotel, South West Rocks at 11am on Saturday, 1st September 2018.
Besides the sculptures actually in the Goal, we plan to display sculptures, artworks and photographs in South West Rocks businesses who wish to take part in the Escapee Trail. All Escapee Trail works must be priced for sale. This is an initiative of the Chamber to encourage visitors to spread their wings and visit other parts of the Rocks.
Entries close at 5pm Friday, 29th June 2018 with the Sculpture exhibition Gala day to be held on Sunday, 5th August 2017.
